What is an Herb ?
An HERB are the aromatic leaves of the plant. Herbs usually have a milder subtle flavor. Herbs can be either fresh or dried.
Shopping in the nursery or grocery store it is common to find herb plants for sale. EXAMPLES — Basil, Mint, Rosemary, Thyme, Oregano, Sage and Parsley. Use the leaves of these plants.
EXAMPLE for comparison —- Cilantro and Coriander — Cilantro can be purchased fresh or a living plant. Cooks use the leaves of the Cilantro plant. The spice Coriander is the seeds of the Cilantro plant.
Cilantro is one of the oldest known herbs, originating in the Middle East and southern Europe.
Turmeric: Contains curcumin, a potent antioxidant with anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties.
Known for its digestive and anti-nausea effects, and may also boost immunity.

What is a Spice?
Spices are from the different parts of the plant, unlike the herb which is the leaves of the plant. Spices are generally stronger in flavor. Spices are usually dried. Examples of the parts of a plant used to make a spice are — the root, stem, seed, fruit or bark. EXAMPLES — Black Pepper, Cinnamon, Cumin, Paprika, Garlic. These spices can be ground and dried in a spice jar or like cinnamon found as a cinnamon stick. Fresh Garlic (bulb of the plant allium sativum) is sold in the produce section and dried garlic is sold in the spice section of the grocery store.
Cinnamon: May help regulate blood sugar levels and improve heart health.
Garlic: Contains allicin, an antioxidant with antimicrobial and immune-boosting properties.
Cumin: May help improve digestion and reduce inflammation
Chili powder: Contains capsaicin, an anti-inflammatory compound that may boost metabolism
