Many of the Japanese vegetables are healthy and easy to grow in an indoor garden. The Japanese garden is based on the concept of creating a natural and organic environment. If possible grow your garden near a sunny window, take care with placement of the plants and create a pleasing display of the plants.

Japanese Vegetables suited to indoor gardens.

Leafy Greens

  • Komatsuna: Leafy green - used in salads and stir-fries.

  • Mizuna: Peppery green add to salads and hot pots.

  • Shiso: (Perilla) Herb used as a garnish or in salads.Types: Green, Korean, Purple, Purple Red

Mitsuba Parsley - easy green to grow indoors. Prefers shade.

Komatsuna - mustard, easy to grow. Can be eaten at baby leaf stage.

Bok Choy - purchase the baby bok choy, easy to grow indoors. Bok Choy is a member of the cabbage family.

Other Asian Veggies: Gai Lan, Pea Shoots, and Chinese Celery which is tender and has a mild celery taste.

Daikon: White radish - difficult to grow this root vegetable indoors because of the large container needed for this large radish. Best Solution - grow this radish as a microgreen.

Other Vegetables

Shishito Peppers: Mild peppers. The indoor gardener regular grows Shishito peppers. The pepper plant get approximately two feet tall.
