An NIH study conducted by scientists at Rush University in Chicago and Tufts Human Nutrition Research Center in Boston studied 960 older adults and enrolled them in a Memory Study.
The study focused on CONSUMPTION OF LEAFY GREEN VEGETABLES and how well the participants performed on Memory tests.
Average Age - 81 years old
Duration of Study - 5 years
VEGGIES - Participants had three categories to choose from: Category 1 - ½ cup cooked Spinach, Category 2 - ½ cup Kale, Collards, Greens, ½ cup raw lettuce salad
Participants who ate 1.3 servings per day compared to the participants who barely consumed any veggies - 0.09 servings per day — the participants who ate the highest daily amount of green vegetable servings tested as being an average of 11 years younger cognitively.
“This study indicates that consumption of green leafy vegetables is associated with a slower rate of cognitive decline in older adults, possibly due to the neuroprotective actions of specific nutrients.” — NIH STUDY ——-Leafy greens linked with slower age-related cognitive decline
